Friday January 31

Today we had physical literacy and played a variety of movement games and activities in the classroom.  Please ask your child to tell you about them.  This morning we did our weekly Big 5 math check in.  Some of the children will be bringing home some math homework this weekend.  I would also like to see them all practicing their multiplication fast facts so they are having to count ahead using their fingers less often. Homework tonight:  - home reading  - Reading Bingo due to the library Monday morning  - Unplug and Play form due to the library Monday morning  - math if not completed  - Lit Circle reflection pages for weeks 1 and 2 if not completed Have a good weekend!

Thursday January 30th

This morning we continued exploring Morphology and looked at two more suffixes (-est and -ty).  This afternoon we got into our Lit Circle groups.  Tomorrow the Thinking Pages for weeks one and two will be due at the end of the day. Homework tonight:  - home reading  - Lit Circle Pages one and two due tomorrow  - Outside tomorrow afternoon  - Dress as your Favourite Book Character tomorrow  Have a good night!

Wednesday January 29th

Today the students each completed a Non Fiction Reading Assessment.  This afternoon we worked on our Typing Pal and Prodigy.  I did assign 10 questions to each of the student's Prodigy account today.  If these are completed in the next week, they will receive an in game bonus. Homework tonight:   - home reading  - share a laugh day (bring in a joke) Have a good evening.

Tuesday January 28th

This afternoon we went out to snowshoe on the fields with our buddies.  I sent an email home last night informing families that our trip to McQueen next week has been postponed due to the colder weather being forecast.  In gym today the students played four corner soccer. Homework tonight:  - home reading  - Heritage Stamp if not complete  - gym tomorrow Have a great evening!

Monday January 27th

Today we started the morning with a work block and completed our Heritage Stamps.  If your stamp is not completed, it is homework.  We ended the day today getting into our Lit Circle groups.  I have really been enjoying discussing these novels with the students. Homework:  - Heritage Stamp if not complete  - No Word Study this week  - Library tomorrow  - Gym tomorrow  - Book Exchange   - Poem in My Pocket tomorrow Have a wonderful evening!

Friday January 24th

Today we continued to work on our Heritage Stamps and Lit Circle work.  These should be completed for Monday at lunch.  I have told the students we will have a little bit of time on Monday in class.  This morning we were lucky to start our day with a string quartet in the gym. Homework  - Heritage Stamps due Monday at lunch  - Lit Circle week one page  - Monday is Read Me Day (wear clothing with words on it)   - home reading Have a wonderful weekend!

Thursday January 23

 This afternoon we worked on a clay project.  We continued to focus our learning on our Heritage Stamp project today.  We are going to try and wrap this up tomorrow. Homework tonight:  - home reading  - word study unit if not completed  - Heritage Stamp due tomorrow Have a wonderful evening!

Wednesday January 22

Today we went and helped our little buddies make Recycle Robots.  We also spent time working hard on our Heritage Stamps.  These should be finished up by Friday, but some children may need time on the weekend. We are working with clay tomorrow.  Please do not wear your favourite shirt. Homework tonight:  - home reading  - Heritage Stamp (if needed)  - do not wear best clothes tomorrow Have a good night.

Tuesday January 21

Today we met with our Lit Circle groups again to continue to discuss our new novels.  We spent the morning working on our Heritage Stamp projects.  These should be finished at the end of the week. Homework tonight:  - home reading  - gym tomorrow  - permission slips  - 4/5 Montessori letter Have a wonderful evening!

Monday January 20th

 Today we started our Lit Circle groups.  Please ask your child about the novel they will be reading over the next five weeks.  We also looked at the process of answering the style of questions asked by the District Numeracy Team. Friday January 17th

We did Physical Literacy this afternoon on the playground.  The students played an Amazing Race style game through the playground.  We continued on with a work block day.  Many of the students were very productive.  Some will be bringing home some homework this weekend to get caught up. Homework:  - home reading  - Cenozoic Book if not complete  - Word Study package if not complete Have a wonderful weekend!

Thursday January 16th

This afternoon we talked about our Heritage Stamps.  We will be working on these more in the following week.  We will also be starting a novel study next week.  Today we looked and voted on the possible novels we will be reading. Homework tonight:  - home reading  - word study dictation tomorrow  - bring outside clothes for Physical literacy tomorrow afternoon Have a great evening!

Wednesday January 15th

This morning we had a math focused work block.  Many students completed a lot of math lab tasks!  In the afternoon we worked on our Typing Pal lessons as well as some classroom organization.   Homework tonight:  - home reading  - word study due tomorrow  - What in the World/Canadian Reader articles if they have not been completed are overdue  - Cenozoic illustrations due on Friday  - outside for Physical Literacy on Friday afternoon, please dress to be outside Have a wonderful evening!

Monday January 13th

Today we did a practice assessment question in preparation for the district numeracy assessment that will be happening in February.  This question asked the students to think about a real life problem and find a mathematical solution for it.  In the afternoon we worked on our Heritage Stamps and/or our Cenozoic Booklets.  The Cenozoic Booklets are due on Friday this week. Homework tonight:  - home reading  - word study  - library tomorrow  - gym tomorrow  - field trip (McQueen Lake) form due ASAP

Friday January 10th

This afternoon we had a lot of fun designing our new covers for our writing books.  This morning we completed a Perplexor in math. Homework this weekend:  - home reading  - Cenozoic book due next Friday Have a great weekend!

Thursday January 9th

This afternoon we started creating book covers for a new writing book.  If your child would like to bring in pictures, stickers or magazines from home to add to theirs they are welcome to do so.  We also started looking at ideas for our Heritage Stamps/Projects this morning.  This will take up a lot of our learning over the next few weeks. Homework tonight:  - home reading  - word study dictation tomorrow  - images for writing books (optional) Have a wonderful evening!

Tuesday January 7th

 We have been talking about morphology in class and today looked at the prefix -un and the suffix -ly.  Please ask your child to tell you more about this.  We started library exchanges today.  Please ensure that all books at home are returned to the school. Monday January 6th

 Happy New Year! Today we started our final timeline book.  We will be working to complete our Cenozoic books by next Friday.  In our first Math Monday of the year we had to decide about the best method for selling cookies.
