Monday March 31

 Welcome back!  I hope that everyone had a wonderful break.  Over the next few days we will be turning notes into paragraphs for Heritage Fair.  Please make sure your child has all their notes with them tomorrow. We did our Math Monday estimating today.  The children had to estimate four images of strawberries and justify their thinking.  This afternoon we made gyrocopters to help us understand air force and lift. Homework:  - home reading  - Heritage Fair notes  - library tomorrow  - gym   - Fun Fair BBQ basket items  - grade six band information sheet Have a good night!

Friday March 14

A reminder that progress reports were published yesterday.  We had another work block day today.  The children continued to work on finishing their Lap Books and Heritage Fair research.  Some of them are bringing home this work to complete over the break.  Please check with your child to complete it sooner than later.  We will start working with paragraph writing for our projects once we return from the break so they need to have their notes completed.   Homework:  - take lunch kit and place in kitchen  - home reading  - Lap Book if not complete  - Heritage Research if not complete (we will start paragraph writing when we get back)  Have a wonderful Spring Break!  Happy and safe travels to those heading out on a holiday.  See you March 31st!

Thursday March 13

Today we finished creating our boats and tested them to learn about drag in water.  Most of the day today was a work block day.  We have been working to finish our Lap Books and get our research completed for Heritage Fair (1 page of notes for each subheading is the goal!).  These will both be homework if not completed at the end of the day tomorrow as we have had many hours of class time dedicated to this over the past few weeks. Wednesday March 12

This afternoon we started a forces experiment looking at drag.  The children are creating boats that we will test tomorrow.  We had a work block Wednesday morning today.  The focus was our Lap Books (due Friday) and our Heritage Fair research.  Homework tonight:  - home reading  - Lap Book due Friday  - Heritage Fair research  - Wear a shape Have a great night.

Tuesday March 11th

This afternoon we did a cooperative art project with out little buddies.  We created robins using the hand prints of the big buddy and little buddy.  In the library today we had fun casting our votes for our favourite books for March Madness.  We also enjoyed the math games that were out for us to play with. Monday March 10

We had a lesson on using quotation marks this morning.  We will be citing sources in our upcoming project and will need to know how to do this properly.  This afternoon we had a lesson in the library about using the Gale source - Canada in Context to help us with our Heritage Fair research.   We had some silliness in the classroom this afternoon with materials being hidden.  We discussed how this is not a funny joke, but property that belongs to other children.  Please discuss the importance of not touching and moving items that do not belong to them with your child. Friday March 7th

Today we did a Perplexor - this is a problem solving question that requires a lot of deep thinking.  We also created some creative writing today with our Story Starter Dice.  The topic that the students rolled was a fire fighter is scared at a summer camp. Homework this weekend:  - home reading  - forces if not returned  - Heritage Fair Research (local library trips?)  Have a great weekend!

Thursday March 6th

The year five and six students have continued to solve some real life math problems.  Today they each created a chore chart to earn screen time!  We had another work block day in the classroom today.  The children are getting very productive with their time and using it wisely! Homework tonight:  - home reading  - Western Day tomorrow (optional)  - Forces readings if not completed Have a great evening!

Wednesday March 5th

We had another work block Wednesday today!  The students were busy working on their Lap Books, Heritage Fair research, forces readings and Math Lab!  Many of the students enjoyed treats from the bake sale today.  This will continue tomorrow at lunch time Homework tonight:  - home reading  - Yr 4 Fractions  - Heritage Fair research   - Bake Sale $1-$2 Have a great night!

Monday March 3rd

The grade fours worked today on reviewing fractions.  We also had a whole class lesson/review on plot and how it is used in stories.  This afternoon we did an experiment on air pressure.  If your child chooses to show you this at home, please make sure they do it over a sink.  Homework tonight:  - home reading  - no word study this week  - library tomorrow  - gym tomorrow Have a great evening!
