Mrs. Elliott's Montessori Classroom

This morning in our exploration of story writing we talked about setting and the importance it brings to a story.  We had a great discussion about how changing the season, year or time a story is written can have a big impact on the story.  It was nice to see a lot of independent math lab work happening in the room today. Homework tonight:  - home reading  - WITW oil (5/6) is due by lunch tomorrow  - Pop Tart planning and setting  - French food plate (5/6) due by lunch tomorrow Have a good night! 

This afternoon we discussed the heart and did an experiment looking at the difference in our pulse from a resting state and again after short and prolonged exercise.  We also started looking at narrative writing this week and today focused on creating character traits for the main character in our upcoming story. Homework:  - poem if not complete  - character traits if not complete  - French if not complete  - any unfinished work (you won't get to start building your character with model magic until you are caught up) Have a good night! 

 Today we started talking about the Fur Trade.  We will be looking at this over the next few weeks.  In gym today the students worked on high jump.  Homework tonight:  - character traits to finish  - digestive title page  - any missing writing (journal, tree poem)  - French food activity if not complete  - library tomorrow  - gym tomorrow Have a good night! 

The Fun Fair last night was a lot of FUN!  Thank you to the PAC for hosting such a great event.  It was wonderful to see so many families out last night. Today we had our digestion quiz, fast facts and Big 5.  We spent a lot of the day as a work block getting caught up on unfinished items. Homework:  - home reading  - French if not complete  - Fraction package if not complete  - No school on Monday Have a wonderful weekend! 

In gym the students worked on high jump and shot put.  Today we also made some cakes in the classroom to donate to the cake walk at the Fun Fair tomorrow night! Homework:  - home reading  - 5s and 6s fraction package (we are finishing marking this tomorrow)   - Fun Fair TOMORROW Have a great night! 

Today we focused on getting caught up on work that we were behind on.  We spent some time making sure that our corrections tote was all emptied and finished.  This afternoon we carried on working on our pointillism art.  These should be finished by the end of the week or will be homework on the weekend. I was so glad to be back in the classroom today. The children will be having a quiz on the digestion system on Friday.  They should all be bringing home their packages to study this week. Today I had the students write me a journal entry about our class trips to the food bank and the CFC.  I look forward to reading all about them, as I was so sad to have missed them. Fun Fair is Thursday evening. PJ day is Friday. We had a fun morning full of April Fool's Day silliness.  This afternoon we worked on Typing Pal.  The children played Doughnut Ball in Gym.   Please return permission slips ASAP for our upcoming field trips.
