Friday May 30th

Today we did another round of fast facts.  The students should still be practicing the ones they are having trouble with.  This afternoon we watched Taiko drumming in the gym.  The students really enjoyed it! Homework this weekend:  - home reading (bring your novels for Monday)  - any unfinished work Have a wonderful weekend!

Thursday May 29th

The students went outside for Health today.  We had a work block day.  The children should all be making sure that their writing books and poems are completed. A reminder that tomorrow is Anything But a Backpack day.  PLEASE keep in mind that these items need to be in our classroom. (No huge suitcases please). Wednesday May 28th

This morning we did our Non Fiction Reading Assessments.  This data helps me to plan where the children still need to work.  We also started a project in fine arts, the students will be doing a lip sync battle next week.  We will be working in small groups to practice chosen songs and create costumes and dances to accompany them. Homework tonight:  - home reading (novels need to be finished to be ready to start our book trailers on Monday)  - word study practice  Have a good night!

Monday May 26th

This afternoon we started a study of biomes.  We will be doing research in books to find out more about six different biomes on the earth.  We also received our final word study package for the year.  June gets very busy and we will be reviewing the words we have been working with all year.  Many children have not been changing their shoes.  Even though the weather is nicer, this is causing dirt to be brought into the classroom.  The children need to be changing shoes when coming into the classroom please. Homework:  - home reading  - library tomorrow  - gym tomorrow Have a good night!

Friday May 23

This morning the children planted the school garden.  They did a wonderful job and it looks fantastic!  We did our fast facts again today.  Each of the children is coming home with a number that they are going to work on multiples for next week.   Homework this weekend:  - home reading (novels need to be finished by FRIDAY next week)  - rock cycle if not complete (overdue)  - word study if not complete (overdue)  - math package (4/6) if not complete Have a wonderful weekend!

Thursday May 22

This morning we read Mr. Peabody's Apples by Madonna and talked about making mistakes.  In health the students learned about caffeine and sugar.  Tomorrow we will be planting the school garden so please come in gardening clothes. Wednesday May 21

Congratulations to all of our students who took part in the Zone track meet today.  Those remaining at the school did a gym class where they played Skittles.  We also talked about mining today and did some Chocolate Chip Cookie mining to understand the mining process a little bit more. Tuesday May 20th

Today we discussed appropriate use for AI in the classroom.  We also received new word study words today.  Many of the students are participating in the Zone Track Meet tomorrow.  We wish them all luck. Thursday May 15th

This morning we did our fast facts practice.  We also completed our word study dictation today.  We joined a virtual presentation from the National Ballet of Canada today.  Please ask your child to tell you about it. Homework this weekend:  - no school Friday or Monday  - track zone permission slips went home today  - core competency reflections if not complete  - word study package if not complete  - rock cycle package if not complete  - map due Tuesday at the end of the day   Have a good long weekend!

Wednesday May 14th

Today we worked on our street drawings.  The students have been personalizing the stores that they have drawn to represent their interests.  We had an Art Starts performance this afternoon.  It was an improv group.  We also started our day with a class meeting today as a reminder of our RoaRS behaviours at school.   Homework tonight:  - home reading  - fast facts tomorrow  - word study dictation tomorrow  - map due tomorrow  - rock cycle due tomorrow  - field trip forms if not returned  - no school Friday or Monday Have a good night!

Tuesday May 13th

Today we did a Eureka! workshop and created balloon powered cars, air hockey and used ozobots.  We also had gym and library today.  The children should be reading their novels right now as these need to be completed by the end of May. Homework tonight:  - home reading  - map due Thursday  - rock cycle due Thursday Have a good evening!

Monday May 12th

We had our word study dictation this morning.  This afternoon we reviewed the rock cycle.  We have Eureka! coming to visit our classroom tomorrow morning. Homework tonight:  - home reading (novels to be finished by the end of the month)  - word study unit 14 if not complete  - WITW/CR if not complete  - map due Thursday  - library tomorrow - gym tomorrow Have a great evening!

Friday May 9th

We did our fast fact practice again today.  I was VERY pleased to see an improvement in almost everyone from last week!  This afternoon we continued working on our vanishing point art.  Due to the many absences in the classroom today we decided to wait until Monday to do our Word Study Dictation. Homework:  - home reading  - word study if not complete  - core competencies if not complete Have a wonderful weekend!  Happy Mother's Day on Sunday!

Wednesday May 7th

We worked on some Found poetry this morning.  We used pages from our read aloud to choose words to write our own poems.  We worked on Typing Pal this afternoon.  I was pleased to see so many of the children excited about their progress. Homework tonight:  - home reading  - permission slip (this is NOT an overnight field trip, we are just visiting the overnight centre.  You also may have already paid as this was the make up date from the day in February where we had to postpone due to the cold weather). I am away tomorrow, but will return for Friday. Have a good night!

Monday May 5th

Today we carried on our study of rocks and minerals and took some notes on the different types of rocks.  Please ask your child to tell you the three types.  We got a new Canadian Reader/What in the World article today that looks at the closing of the Hudson Bay Company.   Homework tonight:  - fast facts  - home reading (novel to be finished by the end of the month)  - gym tomorrow  - library tomorrow Have a wonderful evening!

Friday May 2

This morning we went out and started prepping the school garden for planting.  We did a perplexor in math today.  We also did a fast facts practice.  This will be happening weekly for the next five weeks.  After six weeks of data, we will graph our individual progress.  The students were given 5 minutes and 100 multiplication questions to answer.  We talked about fun ways to practice these facts at home, like playing Math Snap.  Please remember when playing Math Snap with your child that you are giving them a bit of think time (minimum 3 seconds) before you are answering, until they are feeling more confident with their answers. Thursday May 1

We started talking about Rocks and Minerals today.  We had fun this afternoon creating lift the flap notes to share our learning.  Today was also Principal appreciation day and we wrote some notes to our administrators.   Homework tonight:  - home reading  - gardening tomorrow  - fast facts practice tomorrow Have a good night!
