Monday September 29th

We started the day with an assembly outside for Orange Shirt Day and Truth and Reconciliation.  We also read Not My Girl with is a picture book companion book for Fatty Legs, which we finished last week.  A reminder that there is no school tomorrow.  Homework tonight:   - home reading  - library Wednesday  - gym Wednesday  - indoor shoes Have a good evening. 

Friday September 26th

 Today we learned/reviewed how to put our own library books on hold.  We also did our first Comprehension Cliffhanger of the year today!  This is where I read the first part of the story and stop in an exciting moment.  The children have to write the ending of the story. Thursday September 25

 We had a very busy day today.  We had photos done today.  The children have also started working on their art cards today.  The day ended with a presentation on Truth and Reconciliation Day.  A reminder that Monday we are inviting the children to wear orange in honour of this day.   Homework tonight:  - home reading  - dictation tomorrow Have a wonderful evening! 

Wednesday September 24

Today we took part in the Terry Fox Run!  We also did our first NFRA of the year.  This is a Non Fiction Reading Assessment.  Tomorrow is photo day. Homework tonight:  - home reading  - word study practice  - photo day tomorrow Have a great evening! 

Tuesday September 23

Today the students had a gym class.  We did our first Canadian Reader article of the year, it was about the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation next week.   Homework tonight:  - home reading  - word study practice  - library tomorrow  - Terry Fox Run tomorrow ($2) Have a great evening! 

Friday September 19th

Today we celebrated the International Day of Peace.  This day will take place on Sunday, but since we will not be together, we honoured this today.  We enjoyed our beautiful day by doing some weeding in the school garden.   Homework tonight:  - home reading  - no school Monday  - $2 for Terry Fox Run Have a wonderful weekend!  See you Tuesday! 

Thursday September 18th

Today the students had a health lesson.  We did a reading response for the novel Fatty Legs.  The students also did a Would You Rather question in math today.  We will be collecting for the Terry Fox Run which takes place next Wednesday.  Please bring in a Toonie for Terry! Homework tonight:  - home reading  - dictation tomorrow  - $2 for Terry Fox  - Word Study Sentences if not complete 

Wednesday September 17th

I was away yesterday afternoon which is why there was no blog post made yesterday.   Today we met with our little buddies for the first time.  We helped them with their first fire drill!  We also had our very first session in the library today!   Homework tonight:  - home reading  - word study Have a wonderful evening! 

Monday September 15th

Today we started talking about the International Day of Peace.  We will be honouring this day on Friday afternoon.  We went outside with the other Montessori classes this afternoon to practice our song.  We did more word study work today.  We are still working with our review words. Friday September 12th

 We started our Friday with a Big 5 math check in and our word study dictation.  The grade fives and sixes practiced our numbers to 20 in French.  The students are also working to create posters for the Terry Fox Run for the school.  A reminder that the community run is this Sunday at 10am in Riverside Park! Thursday September 11

We did a group activity where we had to rotate through tables writing our opinions on our thoughts on each question asked.  We also started creating posters for the school Terry Fox run (happening Sept. 24).  The students also had their first health class today where they talked about the brain. Homework tonight:  - home reading  - word study dictation tomorrow morning  - All About Me if not completed Have a wonderful night! 

Wednesday Sept. 10

Today we talked about Terry Fox.  Our school run is coming up in a couple of weeks and the community run is this Sunday.  We also started working on our class beliefs.  We have been talking a lot about our class and school community over the past week and we will be slowly creating a list of items that are important to us in our classroom.   Homework tonight:  - home reading  - word study (dictation Friday)  - Friday wear red for dyslexia awareness  - Sept. 16 is the PAC Welcome Back BBQ Have a wonderful evening! 

Tuesday September 9th

Today the students had their first gym class.  The grade five and six students sang the alphabet song in French.  They did a wonderful job!  The students also enjoyed some personal reading when they came back in from a warm lunch hour!  Our library blocks will start hopefully next week. Monday Sept. 8

We started our new novel, Fatty Legs today.  The students had to summarize the first part that we read in their own words.  We did our first Math Monday of the year today.  Please ask your child to tell you about it.  We have also started our Word Study for the year.  We are starting the year with review words.   Homework tonight:  - home reading  - word study   - gym tomorrow morning Have a wonderful evening! 

Friday Sept. 5

Today we did collaborative art.  Each student is colouring a piece of a puzzle that we will put together in our hallway.  We also reviewed what we did this week and did a core competency reflection as to the skills we used throughout the week.  We also enjoyed some personal reading time.  I love how much this group enjoys books! September 4 - Welcome Back!

Today we reviewed our RoaRS expectations and made flowers to contribute to our school mural.  Some of the grade fours started doing bead chains.  We also did a Get to Know You Bingo to make connections with our classmates.  Agendas will be coming home soon!
