Thursday January 29th

We did literacy rotations with the other class today.  Please ask your child to tell you about the four different sentences they learned about today (declarative, interrogative, imperative and exclamatory).  A reminder that tomorrow is dress as your favourite book character. Homework:  - home reading  - reading bingo due Monday  - unplug and play sheet due Monday  - still missing some Reasons for Exploring sheets (please remind your child to get this completed if they have not handed it in) Have a good night! 

Wednesday January 28th

 Today we had a work block day.  The students have a variety of assignments on the go right now.  This includes some information and reflection on early explorers and the reasons they explored, their math lab and a muscle system information package and title page.   They should all be bringing home a reading bingo sheet today as part of their unplug and play challenge week.  These need to be brought back to the school along with their unplug and play books on Monday next week. Monday January 26th

Today we started talking about the early explorers in Canada and the reasons for exploration.  Heritage Stamps were due today.  If these have not been handed in, they are homework. It is literacy week this week.  Please be aware of the following upcoming days! Friday January 23rd

We had a Math Monday on a Friday today.  We did an Esti-Mystery (our favourite) and estimated how many pencil sharpeners were in a vase.  We also had a big morning of sharing our learning.  The students did a fast fact check in, a Big 5, a word study dictation and a skeletal quiz! Homework this weekend:    - home reading  - Heritage Stamps must be handed in Monday before going home Have a wonderful weekend!

Thursday January 22

Today we had little buddies and we helped them build robots.  In health today the students talked about healthy and unhealthy relationships. Homework tonight:   - home reading - word study - 80s and 90s day tomorrow - skeletal system quiz tomorrow Have a good night!

Wednesday January 21

We had a work block Wednesday today!  The children had the day to plan out and work on what they felt they needed to be doing.  There was a lot of great work completed today.  The year fives also completed their Nonfiction Reading Assessment today. Homework:  - health tomorrow  - home reading  - word study sheet if not complete  - 5/6 French questions if not complete   - 80s/90s day Friday Have a good night. 

Tuesday January 20th

We had literacy stations in the classroom today.  We reviewed the history of writing, one of the Montessori Great Lessons.  This afternoon we worked on the good copies of our Heritage Stamps.   Homework today:  - home reading  - library tomorrow  - gym tomorrow  - Throwback Day Spirit Day on Friday  - Skeletal Quiz on Friday  - Scholastic orders due Friday  Have a good night! 

Monday January 19th

We finished our skeletal experiment today.  We discovered that without calcium, bones can bend.  We spent much of the day today working on our Heritage Stamps.  We will continue to work on our good copies of these tomorrow. Friday January 16th

We started marking our Skeletal Packages.  We will finish marking these on Monday morning.  We had our big word study dictation this week!  New lists to come out next week.  We worked on our Heritage Stamp images this afternoon.  For those children not done their rough copy, these are homework.  They need to show me a finished rough copy Monday morning. Thursday January 15th

The year fours and sixes wrote their Winter Non Fiction Reading Assessment today.  Due to absences, the fives will write theirs on another day.  We had some work block time today to work on our skeletal packages and Heritage Stamps. Homework tonight:  - home reading  - review dictation tomorrow   - marking first three pages of skeletal system packages tomorrow we will finish marking Monday  - rough copy of your stamp image Have a good night!   

Tuesday January 13th

We started an experiment in the classroom today.  We will be looking at why calcium is so important to our bones.  We placed one chicken bone in a jar with vinegar and sealed it.  We placed a second chicken bone in a jar with nothing but air.  We will look at these bones again next week.  We started working on our rough images for our Heritage Stamps this afternoon.  We will continue with these through the week. Homework:  - library tomorrow  - gym tomorrow  - change of clothes if you haven't brought them   - home reading Have a wonderful evening!

Monday January 12th

We started our research today for our Heritage Stamp paragraphs.  We will be starting our rough copies of our stamp tomorrow so ask your child to share their topic and ideas with you.  Our word study this week is a review list.  The students have 50 words to be studying this week for their Friday dictation. Homework:  - home reading  - word study  - library books  - gym tomorrow  - extra clothes (the fields are very wet!) Have a wonderful evening!

Friday January 9th

This afternoon we had a wonderful chemistry demonstration in the classroom.  The children really enjoyed all of the experiments, especially a balloon explosion.  We started our day with our Big 5, fast facts and word study dictations. Thursday January 8th

Today we started the Skeletal System.  The students will be doing some independent study as we work our way through this unit.  A reminder that tomorrow we will start our Big 5 math check ins as well as word study dictations and fast fact practice. Wednesday January 7th

This morning we discussed the Heritage Stamp project that we will be starting and completing in the month of January.  This is not the same as the Heritage Fair that we did last year.  Your child should be starting to brainstorm some Canadian history ideas.  We had a wonderful afternoon at the band concert. Tuesday January 6th

Today the year fives and sixes reviewed some French vocabulary.  This afternoon we also started to create the first title page for our human body systems study, the Skeletal System. Monday January 5th 2026

Happy New Year!  We started learning about the human body systems today.  Over the next couple of months we will be learning about a variety of the systems that make up the human body.  We also did some journaling about our break.
